More of AJ and his pretty momma tomorrow.
More of AJ and his pretty momma tomorrow.
Yesterday I got an email from this gorgeous momma that my favorite little man’s brothers were here! Yes…brothers…twins!!!!…:) I can not WAIT to meet them and see her and her sweet boys all together!
The Summer Day
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
The farm belonged to her family. Her neighbors growing up were her cousins. Her dad had built their house with his own hands. There was so much love bursting from this place that when you stepped onto the property you knew your were stepping on sacred ground.
As we explored the farm, Kira talked of her childhood. Afternoons were spent in the creek…in the fields…climbing trees. Through out the afternoon, even as an adult, she still wasn’t afraid to run through the fields…to jump on the vines…to wrap up in a cozy blanket and kiss the love of her life. Her spirit and joy of being home where she belonged was made even more apparent by her adoration of Mark.
Weeks later…I am certain it was not the perfect light…nor the ancient trees…nor the horses in a field of wildflowers…that made this session so beautiful. It was seeing beauty and life in the world. It was peeking into two hearts together that love in the moment in a wild and precious life.
Thank you Kira and Mark… Thank you…thank you.
It’s that time. The sun is starting to set. You know the majority of the day is over and the world is starting to settle down. The smell of dinner is in the air, but before you sit around the table…you take a little break. You breathe in the day and what you have accomplished and then you forget about it all. You laugh a little easier…feel a little lighter…stroll a little longer.
Today was a jam-packed Monday, but it was also full of family, friends and eating delicious food while little babies slept.
I am excited for all the things going on this week…and to share even more of Mark and Kira’s gorgeous engagement session.
But for today…just for a bit this afternoon…I am going to enjoy the little breeze and take it all in a bit…I hope you do too.
PS- For all those who messaged me about not posting today…I heart you <3 Thanks for reading xo
So many things about this session were a photographer’s dream! This couple could NOT be sweeter and the surroundings were to die for.
This is just a taste to hold you through the weekend.
If it’s not evident already… Rachel knows how to work the camera. Photographers often make the best models because they have a greater understanding of what looks good “in camera”. (Note: I do not claim to be someone who can do this…at all..I like being behind the camera:)
These images were taken about 7am right at Constitution and 18th street. If you know DC…you know that it is the start of rush hour so we had to act quickly. When I would say something to Rachel on her posing…she knew exactly what I was looking for. She trusted my vision and went for it. The resulting images did not disappoint. She looks beautiful…powerful and strong…everything that she undoubtedly is.
Thank you Rachel for trusting my vision for this shoot and for allowing me into this time in your life.
You rocked it girl!
Rachel is a photographer and a super talented salsa dancer. She is passionate…creative…and in love.
Her and Louie currently live in San Diego, CA so I was super honored when she called me a few months ago to plan out a session here in DC. It made it even better when I found out she was EXPECTING. I am always so honored when fellow photographers ask me to capture images for them and give me the freedom to be creative…especially during SUCH an important time in their lives.
This session was taken in the wee hours of the morning in DC. Unfortunately, the crystal clear forecast was not so crystal clear, but the empty monuments were the intimate setting we were looking for.
I loved how they were so natural just loving on each other. But what I really loved most was their openness and their genuine joy.
Make sure to stay tuned for second post of these amazing people tomorrow.
“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.
When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’.
They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
So excited for this momma and all the happiness in her life.
More of her gorgeous self on the blog tomorrow.
His timing was trying for 5 years.
His timing was a call at 12 in the morning.
His timing was 3 weeks early.
His timing was 4 people witnessing His goodness.
His timing was 11 hours of labor.
His timing was 30 minutes of pushing.
His timing came in the form of 5 lbs. 14oz.
His timing came in the form of tears, tiny cries and full hearts.
His timing was on Father’s Day.
His timing was perfect.
Welcome to the world Summer and Dear God…Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
You know that smiley feeling you get when your doggies lick your face? Or the excitement you feel when you get to jump on the couch as much as your want? Or maybe it’s the full feeling you have when we let you eat unlimited strawberries from the garden. Sweet girl…those feelings are the ones you get when your heart is truly happy.
Since last year’s father’s day you have grown from a tiny baby into our new little girl and your daddy has grown from a new dad to your dad.
Your dad knows you like nobody else…can make you laugh the easiest…eat your meals the best and teaches you new baby signs everyday. He is the first to jump out of bed when you have a bad dream and to let you play with Jack and Brody even if mommy is nervous. He knows just how to put you to sleep. He let’s you explore and shows you new things. He let’s you be messy, but he also knows just how to put ribbons in your hair.
Most importantly, in the past year, he has given us the gift to be a family that is home together every day.
If you think of all the happiness from doggy kisses, couch jumping and unlimited strawberries and you put them together…that’s what I feel whenever I see you and your daddy together.
Thank you sweet girl, for showing me in the past year how God picked the most wonderful daddy and husband for our little family.
My heart is so happy.
Happy Father’s Day to your amazing dad and Happy Daddy’s Day to you.
