Monthly Archives: October 2012

October 26th, 2012

She is gorgeous, kind, and a lot of fun to be around.  I loved her engagement session and I couldn’t help, but give a little peek at what she was like as a bride.

Stunning, graceful, joy-filled.

Happy weekend everyone.

Suitcase packed…heart in hand.

October 16th, 2012

There comes a time when you just know something has to change.  You need to do something different.

The past three years have certainly had a lot of change…I mean… A LOT. From logos…to websites…to deciding not to pursue a DC career…to becoming a mom…to going full-time as a photographer…to saying I am not a wedding photographer…to booking 20 weddings just this year.  A LOT had changed.  I know many of you have witnessed these changes…supported me…pushed me to get better…cheered for me.  The thought of all of it makes my eyes blurry with tears.  But the kind of change I am talking about is the one where you just decide what matters.

You all might be familiar with Lara Casey…read… CEO of Southern Weddings Magazine…and if you know her…you probably know Emily Ley… and if you know them…then you should most definitely know…Gina Zeidler… of Gina Zeidler Photography.  Well I am headed their way tomorrow.  Literally.

Tomorrow morning I will be en route to Making Things Happen 2012 in Atlanta. I received a tiny little invitation in my inbox two weeks ago.  A tiny little invitation with what I hope are big implications.

So you are probably wondering…What exactly is Making Things Happen??… Well it’s a lot of things, but what you need to know most is that it’s where you decide to face fears, get specific with your dreams and set yourself on fire with a clear passion in mind.  After the past six weeks in which I was overloaded personally and professionally…I realize friends…this is something I am long overdue for.

I know in the coming days I am going to to have to bare it all.  I know that I will be pushed to make decisions about business, family and life.  I will hopefully walk away a better wife, mother, photographer, friend.

In the next few days, I will not just have to wear my heart on my sleeve, but put it in my hand.

And what do I have to say to that?   Bring it on.

See you on the flip-side.

A Little More Romance

October 12th, 2012

Romance: A feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love.

I can’t think of a better way to wrap up a week, then with Steph and Mike.  They are beautiful people and so is their love.

Thank you both for letting me be part of this exciting time.

Cheers to romance.

A Little Romance in Georgetown

October 11th, 2012

This was just the beginning of Stephanie and Mike’s Georgetown engagement session. A very small portion of our session, but one I just had to share.  Steph is a fellow McDaniel alum and I had such a great time documenting our evening in the city.  These two definitely have the romance factor down.  They are so sweet together.

Stay tuned tomorrow for part two of their session.

Until then…enjoy the romance!

October 8th, 2012

My husband asked me this morning “What inspires you?”  It was prompted by my longing to just stay in bed.

It is a cold and cloudy day here in DC and coming off a 12 hour wedding day…there were more than three good reasons to just stay where I was this morning.

The question launched me into thinking about that it though…”What inspires me?”

I can tell you being with this couple on their wedding day this past Saturday inspired me.  Witnessing their love…praying with them…being given the privelege to capture beautiful images, but most importantly beautiful people…It made my heart sing.

Focusing on what matters and drawing close to those things…it’s what I need to do more of and what we are all called to do.  This is how we are supposed to live…inspired.

Today I am thankful for this couple and for this opportunity.

Here’s to feeling inspired this week and congratulations to Lauren and Rick on their marriage.

Photographer and Momma

October 5th, 2012

I am always humbled at the privilege I have to document the first days of a babies life, and more importantly, the first days of a new family.  I am even more humbled when it is for a fellow photographer trusting me with those first precious moments.

Danielle is an amazing studio photographer based in Bethesda, MD (Check out her website here.) She knew that she would be able to document those sweet curled newborn photos she is so good at, but she also knew she wanted to have her family documented as a whole…so that is where I came in.

I was so honored to meet little Cooper and to see Danielle in her new role as momma.

Being a mom and a photographer is such a blessing.

Welcome to the club Danielle! Photographer + Momma equals one great life and Cooper is one lucky little boy.

Sarah and Zach

October 2nd, 2012

I first met Sarah when I was a junior in college and she was a just a freshman.  During that year, I would walk-on to the college soccer team, join a sorority, break up with my long-term boyfriend, change my major and decide to spend a part of my senior year abroad.  Yes…all of that in one year.  It was a year of major transition and subsequently, a year where I needed someone to listen. That’s where Sarah came in.

Major transitions would happen in her life that year as well.  Heart-break…disappointments…questioning of the future.  We had long conversations until all hours of the night. We were each other’s sounding board..and like most college girls…our conversations often ended up talking about boys and the future.

I can still remember tearing to her room in the middle of the night with hot tears streaming down my face when I heard the news my ex-boyfriend was dating someone else.  I can still see the tears welling her her eyes as she sat on my bed and told me she didn’t think her high school boyfriend and her were going to make it.  It seemed like the end of the world those nights.

What Sarah didn’t know back then was that there was boy named Zach on campus.  They would meet their senior year…a long way off when you are a freshman.  But before they would graduate…they would fall in love and the start of their happily ever after would begin.  (That same year, I would meet Sean…and well…you know how that story goes.)

Zach loves Sarah exactly how you would want one of your best friends to be loved.  He adores her, he makes her oh-so happy and he loves her for exactly who she is.

I so badly want to go back to those nights where the world was going to end.  I want to go back to the two girls with sticky salty faces and red eyes who sat and questioned if they would ever fall in love again and wondered what their future would hold.  I would hug them…and then I would tell them…”This might sound crazy, but it’s going to be ok. In just a few short years…You are going to marry the love of your life…He is actually around the corner… And you…you are going to take the pictures.”

I know that tears are going to be streaming down my face in June when these two tie the knot.

Unlike college though, these are tears I can not wait for.

Congratulations Sarah and Zach.

I love you both!

“Well hello October!”

October 1st, 2012

I guess it is officially fall.  How did September sneak away so fast?  And somehow between Friday and today, the temperature has decided jeans and boots are in order?  Though I hear this change might be temporary, with it being October I am going to welcome the start of the season…pumpkin-lattes now welcome.

The past few weekends have been jam-packed with gorgeous weddings…and the weather has been amazing.  Gone are those sticky humid days of summer where I feel bad for brides and even worse for the groom.

I thought I would share a little peek of Linda’s wedding.  She kicked off the fall season right with her gorgeous purple and yellow combination.  Looking forward to sharing more of her nuptials and all of the other fun things I have been up to in the coming weeks.  I think it’s almost mini time…

Happy October!
