Your Weekend To Do

November 30th, 2012

The end of the week is here.  I have tree picking, Christmas decorating and time with friends ahead of me.

The holidays are busy, but hopefully this weekend you will embrace the little moments…they are all that matter anyway.

A DC Evening

November 29th, 2012

There are many things to love about DC.  One thing I especially love is how I have lived near this city my whole life and I still find new things to explore and soak in every time I am there.

Recently, I discovered this little place in Georgetown where the canal and the Potomac narrow towards each other and hands down, it has one of the best views of a DC evening.

It is typically dripping with photographers, but this day it happened to be just me and this sweet couple making for an intimate and sweet engagement session.

Phil and Jen are getting married next June and I couldn’t be more excited to share in their big day.

Congratulations you two!

Beautiful Things

November 27th, 2012

Mark and Kira were married at Boulder Ridge at Ski Liberty.  It was the picture perfect scene for a couple that exudes everything that is beautiful in marriage.

During their ceremony Gungor’s “Beautiful Things” was sung.  I couldn’t get enough of it then and I keep finding myself listening to it weeks later.

I am so genuinely happy for these two and I can’t wait to see all of the beautiful things that come out of their marriage.

Congratulations Mark and Kira.  Thanks for letting me in on this journey with you both.

Your Thanksgiving To Do

November 21st, 2012

This Thanksgiving, scratch the greeting card and turkey and the whole idea of giving thanks.  I mean…don’t scratch the turkey off the dinner menu, but in what Thanksgiving actually means.  We see so many things that say “Give Thanks” but we rarely ever turn it into action

So this Thanksgiving, do not just sit around the table with people you love and miss the opportunity to tell them just how thankful you are for them.  Write them a letter, send a message, but don’t let tomorrow go by without doing something.  Life is short and the table is different every year.  TELL THEM.

I am so so thankful for my family this year.  I love love love them and I plan on telling them.

I hope you do to.

Happy Thanksgiving.

A very thankful Brittany

Motivation Monday: Meet Brittany

November 12th, 2012

Yes…Meet Brittany.  The world doesn’t neccessarily need more people named Brittany…man are there a lot of us…but it definitely needs more people like this girl.

Brittany is a lawyer in Florida. Apart from being a super awesome lawyer, Brittany LOVES her house, creativity and writing.

When we met at MTH she was grappling with putting herself out there more and to taking a step out of the world of law and into something inspiring.

Just a week ago, she sent a few of us a little link to something she had been working on.  By little…I actually mean something big…and rather fancy.  Brittany lives in a 85 year old house and has been re-doing it with her husband.  (Hmmm…this sounds familiar…can you see why I love this girl) and she has started chronicling her adventures, as well as the little things in life that MATTER through her blog “Busy Being Fancy”.

This is how she explains the name..

“Fortunately, I have a husband that lets me be…crazy.  He is the fanciest thing I have and my most favorite person in the world.  In fact, he came up with the name of this blog.  It’s a little saying we have in our household for those times you are doing something for the sheer enjoyment of it…  Just something you do for fun because it is wonderful.   For him, that might be programing something on his own instead of buying software or burning the midnight oil to play a video game.  But for me, it has always been spending a little too much time icing those cupcakes or refurbishing an old goodwill dresser.  We are “busy being fancy” every chance we get because that means we are doing something we love and enjoy. It is a way of life for us – the little luxuries that we allow because we work our bums off the rest of the day.”

Since we met a month ago, we have been skyping, emailing and scheming on new steps in our lives for the both of us.  I swear, every time I talk with this girl, my heart just smiles.  I am so inspired by her fearlessness, honesty and kind heart. More importantly, I just can’t get enough of how she makes those little things count.

So on this Monday…check out Brittany’s blog and get busy enjoying those little things… or as Brittany says “Get busy being fancy”.

Happy Monday!

Jackie and Jon

November 8th, 2012

There isn’t much to say about these two other than that I just love them.  They are kind, giving and have the biggest hearts I know.

I have been lucky to see Jackie in many roles since we first met years ago.  Teacher…trainer…leader…  She is just a natural at everything she does.  One thing is clear though… this is the most natural role of her life being the other half to Jon.

I can not wait to see these two married in March next year.

Congrats Jackie and Jon.  SO much love to you both!

Fall Love

November 7th, 2012

Besides the autumn poets sing,
A few prosaic days
A little this side of the snow
And that side of the haze.
~Emily Dickinson

Winter is already rearing it’s snowy head, so enjoy those leaves a little more and get ready for this fall engagement session on the blog tomorrow with Jackie and Jon.

Happy Wednesday!
