Gorgeous portraits are one thing, but genuine candid moments like this one are another. Surrounded by her friends and excited to head to the church to see her groom, this brief glance over her shoulder says it all. Ali you were gorgeous. xoxo
I know many of us have had enough of winter here in Maryland. Between the continuous cold, the many cancellations, the slippery roads, one can quickly forget the fun things about the season. I am a sucker for winter weddings and all their romance and I especially love when brides who embrace the winter white of the season.
Thanks to My Flower Box for Ali’s gorgeous winter bouquet.
Allison and James were married at Armstrong Farms outside of Pittsburgh this past summer. This little place in the countryside had all the charm for some real down-home fun and since Allison and James were looking for a laid-back vibe, it proved the perfect place to tie-the-knot. The farm is home to a gorgeous barn with a wrap-around porch, two sweet little houses, one dubbed the “Love Cottage” for getting ready, a scenic ceremony spot overlooking a pond and all sorts of nooks and crannies guests could explore.
Allison and James had put lots of love into the details and plans of their big day so it was only appropriate that they prepped for their nuptials surrounded by their family and friends. Since there ceremony was later in the day and they wanted to take advantage of the party they had been planning, they opted for a first look. James’ excitement upon seeing his bride had us all excited. And what more can you say about Allison, she was absolutely stunning.
The couple retreated out of the heat as guests arrived. When the moment came to walk down to the ceremony, Allison was escorted by both her parents. The series of photos of her mom giving her away still gives me goose-bumps. There was so much joy for these two.
Allison and James really planned a party for all of their guests. Lawn games, sweet tea, kites for the little ones, were all a part of the fun details of the day that made this wedding such an experience. Guests retreated under the large tent for dinner and a lot of laughter, and then headed to the barn for drinks, desserts and dancing. The party lasted long past when the sun went down.
Allison and James your wedding embodied everything about who you all are as a couple; fun, laid-back and full of love for your family and friends. Thank you for letting me be a part of it.
I am enjoying the quietness of the off season and looking forward to sharing this gorgeous wedding next week. xoxo
This fall I had the privilege of celebrating Meagan and Alex’s wedding day at Stone Manor Country Club outside of Frederick, MD. Meagan and Alex are both McDaniel College Alumni and their wedding happened to fall on McDaniel’s homecoming. As a fellow Green Terror, I can tell you their wedding was a homecoming in itself. It was packed with friends and family and had a laid-back Maryland vibe every true Marylander loves. It doesn’t hurt that Meagan is one of the easiest people to be around and made everyone laugh the entire day; And it doesn’t hurt that Alex laughs easy too. Despite the rain that managed to stay away until everyone was safely inside the reception, the day was full of warmth and celebration.
Congratulations you two! Cheers to many laughs in the future.
An extra special thank you to my second shooter Jill in helping me document this day!
After Ali and Jacob’s beautiful engagement session, I knew that their wedding day was going to be one to look forward to. I had to wait quite awhile as it came as the final wedding of 2013, but it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was such a pleasure to end my year with these two. Cheers Ali and Jacob, enjoy that honeymoon!
Goodness do I have such a soft spot for this couple. Their love story, the backdrop to their big day can’t do anything but remind me of my own. It doesn’t hurt that they chose to tie the knot where I was married almost 4 years exactly to the day. Back then, Black Ankle was a new vineyard in Maryland’s country side that hardly anyone had heard of. Now it has won the Maryland’s Governor’s Cup and is a favorite local spot for a picturesque picnic. Natalie and Mark’s big day was uniquely their own and it was such a privilege to capture it for them.
Natalie chose to get ready on the vineyard property. She was such a trooper when we suggested that we use the old barn as a backdrop. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Natalie comes from a family of all boys. Her brothers were her “best men” and though her closest friends weren’t officially in the wedding, they surrounded her as she prepared for her day.
As soon as Natalie was ready, she was eager to see Mark. We shuffled her off to the top of the vineyard where Mark stood amongst the vines waiting for her. Their first embrace said it all. I myself struggled to hold it together. It was such a perfectly private moment.
As family members arrived and were greeted with a sunny afternoon and Maryland’s beautiful country side, we took time out for portraits.
When the time came for the ceremony, Natalie and Mark held back for their own portraits. It was the perfect few moments as they danced to the music they had selected for their guests playing in the distance.
The ceremony started just as the sun started to set. Guests were given warm picnic blankets to wrap up in as the moon rose and the temperatures dropped. By the time they had said I do, the sun had faded and the fires were crackling inviting guests to their reception.
What better way to start married life then snuggling under a picnic blanket by the fire. Their quiet moments were disrupted as the party immediately got started. Natalie and Mark had a fun-filled evening planned for guests. On top of barrels of wonderful wine, they had local barbecue brought in to add to the Maryland flavor. While some took to cozying under the stars, other took the dance floor. It was quite an event to remember.
Natalie and Mark, your big day was beautiful and downright fun! It is certainly one I will never forget…the familiar setting…the fun food…the crazy dancing…the starry night! Cheers to a lifetime of fun memories ahead. xoxo
These two tied the knot this past weekend at the beautiful Strong Mansion in Dickerson, MD. This is one of my favorite venues, a hidden gem, and rain or shine it was a gorgeous event. Congratulations you two! Enjoy your honeymoon in Italy as Mr. and Mrs. xoxo
I am wrapping up quite the wedding season and this photo I have found myself coming back to. it made me tear up when it happened and it makes me tear up now. This is Meagan and her sweet Grandma seeing her for the first time. There are many beautiful things at weddings, but nothing trumps moments like this. Cheers to a beautiful weekend all. xoxo
Cheers to November; to snuggling tight, glowing fires, heavy blankets and everything you are thankful for.
