This is a shoot I had in my head for awhile. Ever since I met Nicolle a few years back, we had talked about getting a generation shoot on the calendar when her sweet Grandmother was in town. Nicolle’s business, Libby Lane Press, is named after her grace-filled, sweet, soft spoken grandmother. Nicolle often refers to her as the “real” Libby and it was an honor to meet her. With Nicolle’s daughter Sophia turning 5, and the “real” Libby in town, we decided it was time to make it happen. We packed, four strong women in front of the camera and the tender photos that evolved say it all. I know these photos will be passed on to other generations and my heart is so full to have been given the privalage of documenting this.
“Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity.” ~ Plato
Lindsay embodies style and grace and for this simple maternity session she especially shined. Her and her high school sweetheart were expecting their first daughter and we captured some of that grace and beauty to share for when she is older. Congratulations Lindsay.
You are beautiful and I can’t wait to see your family grow!
Yes…Meet Brittany. The world doesn’t neccessarily need more people named Brittany…man are there a lot of us…but it definitely needs more people like this girl.
Brittany is a lawyer in Florida. Apart from being a super awesome lawyer, Brittany LOVES her house, creativity and writing.
When we met at MTH she was grappling with putting herself out there more and to taking a step out of the world of law and into something inspiring.
Just a week ago, she sent a few of us a little link to something she had been working on. By little…I actually mean something big…and rather fancy. Brittany lives in a 85 year old house and has been re-doing it with her husband. (Hmmm…this sounds familiar…can you see why I love this girl) and she has started chronicling her adventures, as well as the little things in life that MATTER through her blog “Busy Being Fancy”.
This is how she explains the name..
“Fortunately, I have a husband that lets me be…crazy. He is the fanciest thing I have and my most favorite person in the world. In fact, he came up with the name of this blog. It’s a little saying we have in our household for those times you are doing something for the sheer enjoyment of it… Just something you do for fun because it is wonderful. For him, that might be programing something on his own instead of buying software or burning the midnight oil to play a video game. But for me, it has always been spending a little too much time icing those cupcakes or refurbishing an old goodwill dresser. We are “busy being fancy” every chance we get because that means we are doing something we love and enjoy. It is a way of life for us – the little luxuries that we allow because we work our bums off the rest of the day.”
Since we met a month ago, we have been skyping, emailing and scheming on new steps in our lives for the both of us. I swear, every time I talk with this girl, my heart just smiles. I am so inspired by her fearlessness, honesty and kind heart. More importantly, I just can’t get enough of how she makes those little things count.
So on this Monday…check out Brittany’s blog and get busy enjoying those little things… or as Brittany says “Get busy being fancy”.
If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride – and never quit, you’ll be a winner.
The price of victory is high but so are the rewards.
I have been toying around in my head for some time about Monday posts. Many bloggers have consistent catchy names and before now I had never jumped on that trend. However…after Making Things Happen I realized I really wanted to make my blog be something people could look forward to reading…and not only just gorgeous photos. I wanted to include stories about people that motivate me.
I knew some of the amazing people I met at MTH would be perfect at this. So before I left Atlanta, a few girls and I got up early to get dolled up and to document the excitement and motivation of the things we had just experienced. It is my hope that their stories over the next few weeks will motivate you and that their images will remind them of just how they felt when they knew with every inch of their soul it was possible to make things happen.
So without further ado…meet Maddie.
Maddie is from Mt. Pleasant South Carolina. She was one of the first girls I met at Making Things Happen. We were part of the “early crowd”. We all met in the hotel lobby the evening before with about 5 other girls and nervously introduced ourselves to one another. The minute Maddie sat down I knew I wanted to be her friend. I mean if her sweet Southern accent didn’t get you…her warm heart, big laugh and easy going style just sucked you right in. On-top of that…this girls heart is about 800 miles wide.
What inspires me about Maddie is that she is a doer. This was apparent to me the minute she told me she was at MTH because she had made some major career decisions to figure out what was important in her life. By the end of MTH she had made the decision to pursue her love of music. We spent the final morning before we were to go home capturing that excitement and clarity for her and I could just feel that big things were about to happen for this girl.
Since she has been home she has actually started taking steps…to make this happen…even despite having tonsil surgery… she is working to make music a priority. I am so so proud of her.
Maddie’s heart and resolve inspire me to keep going after it.
By the end of our Atlanta trip, Maddie and I were walking arm and arm like old best friends and she was shuffling me to the airport while we both held back tears.
I am so excited to see what is next for this girl and I hope she motivates you to take big steps today. Thanks Maddie for sharing your heart and for being such an amazing friend.
So much love.
Happy Monday everyone.
